Oilfield Produced Water Treatment Solution

Enhance economic benefits of oil fields

01 Overview

In petroleum industry, a large amount of oil-containing wastewater needs to be treated and reinjected into formation. However, due to cost of wastewater treatment and practical constraints, many oilfields are unable to treat and reinject wastewater according to principle of “separate production and separate injection.” This leads to compatibility issues between reinjected water and formation water, resulting in formation scaling. This phenomenon not only affects the depth of oil extraction but also poses significant environmental problems. Sulfate ions are the primary factor contributing to formation scaling of reinjected water.

05 FAQ

Sulfate ions in reinjection water combine with calcium, magnesium, strontium, barium, and other ions present in the formation to form sulfate precipitates. These precipitates are a major cause of scale formation and blockage of permeable pathways in the reservoir. Therefore, effectively removing sulfate ions is essential for ensuring the quality of reinjection water and preventing scale formation in the formation.

Ion exchange technology employs specific ion exchange resins that facilitate an ion exchange reaction, where sulfate ions in the produced water are adsorbed and replaced by other ions. This process effectively reduces the concentration of sulfate ions in reinjection water, preventing scale formation and keeping the permeable pathways in the reservoir clear.

By efficiently treating oilfield produced water, this solution not only improves the quality of reinjection water and ensures sustainable oilfield development but also significantly reduces pollutant emissions during oilfield operations. It minimizes environmental impact, aligns with green and low-carbon development principles, and promotes the harmonious coexistence of the petroleum industry and the environment.
